‘And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.’ Surah Al-Isra, Verse 23.
Our parents, grandparents, and the elders who raised us, are preparing to leave their legacies behind and deserve the utmost respect and care from the generations that follow them. However, unfortunately, many elderly Muslims in our community have been neglected by their families while in need of fresh food, daily supplies, medical care, in-home care, support with utility expenses (for example, rent and electricity) which may leave them vulnerable to poor health and homelessness, if not attended.
Through this program, we at NZF hope to collectively work with our partnerships raise awareness of the needs of our elders and our responsibilities in the Australian Muslim community. We also hope to provide accessibility for Muslims seeking appropriate aged care services that meet the expectations and needs of our elders and/or their families.
The Respecting Elders programs is designed to assist and support families who are caring for their elder family members, and elderly Muslims living alone. Especially, those who are struggling to find the right support when in need of maintaining living expenses, geriatric or palliative care.
Along with access to suitable resources and services, NZF will also be arranging visits and activities for the elderly who feel lonely and are desperately in need of company through recreational social activities, day trips, and more.
Support provided through this program includes, but is not limited to, financial support to cover for care expenses, basic needs (food, medicine, bills etc.) including services in aged care, geriatric medicine, recovery and physiotherapy sessions.
The application and validation process is done by the NZF Team with confidentiality. Any information given will only be used to determine the best way we can help you.
